Lunar New Year Closing Party
Lunar New Year is a time of feasting and celebration. All over Melbourne, families have been decorating their homes in red, eating auspicious foods and exchanging red envelopes filled with money to promote good fortune in the Year of the Pig.
In partnership with community cultural association CNY United and the City of Melbourne, Melbourne Museum is hosting a concluding party for the New Year celebrations. Entry to the event is free.
The family-friendly event encourages participation: get swept up in a traditional lantern parade with a fire dragon, glowing lion and giant zodiac lanterns, or learn a Chinese dance routine soundtracked to traditional music.
The fun will continue after sunset. Head next door to the Royal Exhibition Building to see some stunning after-dark visuals projected against the backdrop of the Melbourne landmark.
