There’s an old bluestone cellar below the sultry, stylish Carlton wine bar, Agostino. Descend the stairs any Thursday night in September and you’ll find live shows from some of Melbourne’s most talented improvised jazz musicians – such as guitarist Benjamin Attiche, saxophonist Greg Sher and up-and-coming pianist Kade Brown.
Accompanying the tunes will be a host of new seasonal dishes. Find beef carpaccio with celeriac, horseradish, caperberries and Parmigiano Reggiano, and a fried sandwich with anchovy, green olive and nduja. On the pasta front, there’ll be ravioli cacio e pepe (with cultured butter and truffle pecorino), and maccheroni alla chitarra with crab, cuttlefish, prawns, squid ink. And choose from 180-odd bottles of wine.
No tickets are required, just book a table in the cellar or walk in.
