Lightscape at Royal Botanic Gardens
A field of light, luminous walkways, sparkling trees, floating lights on a lake, glowing tunnels. These are just some of the large-scale installations you'll be able to wander through as part of Lightscape – a 1.8-kilometre walk appearing in Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens this winter.
Ours is the first garden in Australia to host this after-dark installation of light and sound, which more than two million people experienced in the US and UK last year (it was originally slated to premiere in 2020). Vibrant colours are being projected onto tree canopies, walkways and vistas will light up, there'll be glowing tunnels, light shows will reflect on the water and you can step through large-scale installations – more than 100,000 tiny lights were being used to create Winter Cathedral.
Lightscape runs from June 24 to August 7 at Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens. Tickets start from $32 and are available online. Entry is done in 15-minute increments, and you should allow 90 minutes to explore.
