Stretch out in the sun at Rippon Lea with an extended afternoon of French-inspired food, drinks, and live music.

So Frenchy So Chic is channelling its signature celebration of French music, food, and culture into a single sun-soaked day in 2021.

Inspired by the French tradition of an extended afternoon meal, Le Long Lunch will unfold as a luxurious eight-hour picnic at Rippon Lea House and Gardens, pairing live music and DJs with some of Melbourne’s best French chefs and producers.

Tame Impala drummer (and French expat) Julien Barbagallo will perform as his folk-slanted solo project Barbagallo, singer-songwriter Nadéah (of The Lovegods fame) will share her suave, intercontinental pop and Melbourne five-piece Bananagun will playfully blend Afrobeat, Tropicália, exotica, and ’60s psych, topped with DJ sets from So Frenchy founder Jean-Francois Ponthieux and Mystic Brew host Mike Gurrieri.

On the dining front, expect everything from cheeseboards and charcuterie to lobster and pastries, thanks to Cremorne eatery Frédéric, artisanal tart operation Tarts Anon, local cheese specialists Milk the Cow, and Prahran institution L’Hôtel Gitan. Kronenbourg 1664 and Laurent Perrier will also be represented on the day, along with pre-ordered picnic hampers by Michelin-restaurant trained chef Romu.

In keeping with social distancing, Le Long Lunch is limited capacity and only selling tickets in groups or six or 10 (including children). No single tickets are available, but as an added incentive, every group of six will receive a complimentary bottle of Paul Louis French Sparkling wine, while the 10-person Premier Pique-Nique includes two bottles of Laurent Perrier Champagne and two cheese-and-charcuterie hampers.

Now in its ninth year as a live event, So Frenchy So Chic sprang from Jean-Francois Ponthieux’s Melbourne record label Cartell Music, whose compilations of the same name introduced Australian to French artists like Camille, Nouvelle Vague, and Féfé.

Le Long Lunch runs from 11am to 6:30pm Sunday February 21 at Rippon Lea House and Gardens in Elsternwick. Buy tickets here.
