Le Grape Escape at St Kilda Town Hall
Can’t make it to France this year? No problem. In its inaugural year, Le Grape Escape is bringing the best of French wines to St Kilda Town Hall for a two-day celebration hosted by the folks behind annual French music and cultural festival So Frenchy So Chic.
Taste 110 wines from 13 French regions curated by ex-France-Soir sommelier and wine buyer of 10 years Pierre Stock. Working along with boutique French wine importers – who service some of Melbourne’s top restaurants – Stock has assembled a list of bottles from areas including Alsace, Chablis, Beaujolais, Bordeaux, Champagne, Jura, Languedoc Roussillon, Loire Valley, Provence, Rhone and Savoie.
On the food side, there’ll be lobster rolls with truffle chips and tuna tostadas from Pinchy’s Champagne and Lobster Bar; French favourites like charcuterie, duck leg cassoulet and eclairs au chocolat by L’Hôtel Gitan; and a selection of fine cheese to sample and purchase courtesy of L’Artisan Cheese and Long Paddock Cheese.
In classic SCSF fashion, there’ll be DJs spinning tunes throughout the day. Plus, join a masterclass with Bordeaux-native Daniel Airoldi – also known as Mr Bordeaux – to learn the history of the region’s Left and Right banks and making of Merlot and Cabernet Savignon.
Guests will receive their own Le Grape Escape wine tasting glass upon arrival to use while traveling across the different regions at their leisure. Each wine is available for tasting or purchase, by glass or bottle.
