Kids Summer Festival at the NGV
Is your child a budding painter, performer or art critic? Let their creative juices flow when the NGV Kids Summer Festival returns.
This year’s program is packed with arty experiences for kids of all ages, both in the gallery and online.
Explore NGV International IRL with Let’s Find It!, a free treasure hunt that kids can do at their own pace, or gather for story time under the whimsical wooden canopy of Makiko Ryujin and Michael Gittings’s Saṃsāra. A colourful indoor playground by artist Misaki Kawai – replete with furry sculptures of dogs – is sure to be a favourite for curious kidlets.
New exhibition The Gecko and the Mermaid: Djerrkŋu Yunupiŋu and Her Sister is a highlight, exploring the vibrant Yolŋu culture through works by sisters Ms N Yunupiŋu and her sister Eunice Djerrkŋu Yunupiŋu. The colourful artworks depict mermaids, geckos and turtles, and an interactive virtual activity allows kids to draw themselves as mermaids.
Online, kids can join a digital dance party hosted by iconic Melbourne institution Body Electric Dance Studios or join Yorta Yorta rapper Adam Briggs as he reads his new children’s book, Our Home, Our Heartbeat.
