Chef Jung Eun Chae and gelateria Pidapipo are collaborating on three cups – mugwort, makgeolli and watermelon makgeolli gelato – this April.

Jung Eun Chae’s Cockatoo restaurant Chae is perhaps the hardest place to get a table in Victoria. Bookings for the Korean restaurant, which has four public six-person seatings per week, are done via a lottery. But this April, you’ll be able to try Chae’s food without winning the lottery.

The chef is collaborating with Lisa Valmorbida’s gelateria Pidapipo on three limited-time gelato cups, available from Thursday April 9 to Thursday April 30 at all four Pidapipo stores. 

For the makgeolli cup, a scoop of gelato made using Chae’s makgeolli and glutinous rice is topped with puffed sweet rice. The watermelon makgeolli cup sees a scoop of gelato, made using the chef’s watermelon makgeolli, topped with cubes of fresh watermelon. And the mugwort cup is a scoop of gelato made from the herbal tea combined with chocolate granita, a chocolate cookie crumb and a crisp wafer. 

Plus, on Monday April 20, Chae will host a fermentation workshop at Pidapipo Laboratorio in Fitzroy. Tickets for the workshop are $150 per person and will be on sale at noon on Thursday April 9.
