Jagged Little Pill at the Comedy Theatre

240 Exhibition Street, Melbourne
You Oughta Know this’ll be a hit. The Broadway musical inspired by Alanis Morissette’s Grammy Award-winning album is heading to Melbourne after its Sydney season.

Melbourne audiences will be able to see the award-winning Jagged Little Pill at the Comedy Theatre very early in 2022. The show was delayed due to Covid-19, with its Sydney run wrapping up in December.

The award-winning musical takes songs and lyrics from the groundbreaking album by Alanis Morissette that had kids screaming You Oughta Know at the top of their lungs in the ’90s. Australian actor, musician and TV presenter Natalie Bassingthwaighte will star in the lead role of Mary Jane Healy, the perfectly imperfect mother, joined by Tim Draxl, Emily Nkomo, Maggie Mckenna and more.

Though the album that catapulted Morissette to global success was released in 1995, the musical’s themes are grounded in what it means to be American today. It follows the story of a suburban family striving to hide the cracks beneath the surface when a troubling event shakes their community.

Using tracks like Hand in My Pocket and Ironic, as well as a couple of new songs written by Morissette, the musical is centred around the good that comes when people come together. The uplifting show was nominated for 15 Tony Awards and won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.

Tickets go on sale at 12pm on Wednesday.
