Much-loved Melbourne dumpling house HuTong is turning 10, so it's celebrating by giving away free plates of xiao long bao. For one week both the CBD and Prahran restaurants will give away a free serve of HuTong's famous broth-filled Shanghainese dumplings to each table dining in the restaurant, for two hours from Monday to Friday.
The dumplings are plump little parcels of dough filled with pork, ginger and broth. Eating technique is important here to avoid the broth ending up in your bowl (or worse – your lap). Place the dumpling in your spoon and bite off the top then sip the broth from the dumpling – just be careful not to burn yourself.
HuTong Market Lane serves more than 2000 dumplings per day. The name of this quaint Shanghainese restaurant translates to "laneway" – a nod to the narrow laneways of Beijing and of course, Melbourne’s CBD.
This offer is available between 11.30am and 12.30pm, and 5.30pm and 6.30pm Monday to Friday.
