Here’s where to get your next fine-dining green fix: chef and yogi Paolo Arlotta (formerly at Vue de Monde and Tipo00, and ex-head chef at Kinfolk) is hosting more instalments of Herbivorous Nights, a celebration of vegetarian fine dining one Friday and Saturday each month.
The intimate, Mediterranean-influenced dinners – held at Fitzroy's Young Bloods Diner – feature seasonal, sustainable, local produce, with a focus on low-waste, healthy dining. The menu changes each month, so every dinner service offers a different experience.
For the next dinner on Friday November 1, the menu will include plates such as parmesan churros with majoram and fermented garlic; Mista Corta-inspired pasta with fermented potatoes, burnt eggplant and smoked provola; and risotto with asparagus, green olives, grilled chilli and pecorino.
This isn’t Arlotta’s first pop-up: he’s done stints at Host, Private Dining Room, and even a secret location, but this is the first venture where he’s pulling all the strings, from the menu to event planning. And from December he'll be teaming up with Orlando Marzo from Worksmith (who was named the world's best bartender last year) to open a cocktail bar upstairs on dinner nights from 5pm to 11pm. If you missed out on a ticket to the dinner, the bar is also open to the public.
There are three seatings available: 6.20pm, 7.30pm and 8.40pm. Tickets are $75 per person and include two snacks, a cold entree, a pasta course, a risotto and a dessert. Drinks are additional, and the bar will be open from 5pm to 10pm.
The next dinners will be held on November 1 and 2; December 6 and 7; January 17 and 18; and February 7, 8 28 and 29.
