Wine, dine and follow the vine in a celebration of Victoria’s Heathcote region this Queen’s Birthday weekend.

Heathcote has come a long way since the Gold Rush. These days, it’s known for a different kind of treasure: the Shiraz grape. Just over an hour outside of Melbourne, this Central Victorian region is fast becoming one of the country’s best-loved food and wine destinations – which is why Heathcote on Show welcomes visitors to come and experience the area this Queen’s Birthday weekend.

Between June 11 and 13, a selection of artisan winemakers, chefs, brewers and musicians invite you to exclusive wine tastings, sample new releases, hear live music, gorge on gourmet food and take part in a whole range of activities at over 30 locations across the Heathcote township and region.

In the Heathcote township, pay a visit to the historic Heathcote Winery (one of the first commercial wineries in the area, established in 1978); wine and produce enoteca Heathcote Wine Hub; as well as pop-ups from Ellis Wines, Farmer & the Scientist, Humis Vineyard, Rogues Lane and Kennedy Vintners. Also joining in on the fun are local gin distillers Envy Distilling, and craft beer connoisseurs Palling Bros Brewery.

For those venturing outside the township, the wider Heathcote region has plenty to offer during the jam-packed weekend: from a visit to the picturesque Sanguine Estate to live music and tastings at Silver Spoon Estate’s off-grid cellar door. Try the beef bourguignon with a full-bodied Shiraz at Heathcote II, book one of Wren Estate’s specially curated dinners, or listen to local musicians over at Munari Wines in Ladys Pass. With over twenty regional vineyards getting in on the action, there are plenty of places to visit over the weekend – the trouble will be fitting them all in.

There is no need to organise a designated driver – just book your spot on the hop on hop off shuttle buses travelling throughout the region to 16 cellars.

Prefer to take a guided tour? Rambling Wine Tours have you covered, with a customised itinerary designed to show you the best food and wine in the region over the weekend. (Just be sure to book in advance.)
