Greatest of the Mall: Free Doughnuts by Raph Rashid

There’s no such thing as a free lunch. But a free doughnut? Very much a thing.

Across four weeks, All Day Donuts founder Raph Rashid (who goes by the moniker “Snacc Boss”) will collaborate with some exciting names in the Melbourne food scene on exclusive, amped-up doughnut creations.

Each week, one of four playful doughnut flavours will be available at different Vicinity Centres – The Glen, Bayside Centre, Box Hill Central and Broadmeadows Central – for free. It’s all part of the third annual Greatest of the Mall series in partnership with Melbourne Food & Wine, bringing top chefs and food personalities to suburban food courts.

On Saturday June 27 and Sunday June 28, Rashid teams up with Co Bake Space co-founder and retro cake extraordinaire Alice Bennett, aka Miss Trixie Drinks Tea. Stop by The Glen to score one of 600 milk tea-custard-filled brûlée doughnuts, available each day.

Then on Friday July 3 and Saturday July 4, head to Bayside Centre for the Snacc Boss and former Masterchef contestant Dani Venn’s lamington riff on a classic jam doughnut. Each day, there’ll be 600 raspberry-glazed and raspberry jam-filled doughnuts, topped with a generous swirl of whipped cream, up for grabs.

For a modern Middle Eastern spin, drop by Broadmeadows Central on Thursday July 9 and Friday July 10 for a baklava-inspired doughnut by Rashid and Jonathan Williams of Dub Eats Everything. They’ll be giving out 600 cheesecake-filled doughnuts topped with filo flakes and pistachio each day. 

Finally, on Saturday July 11 and Sunday July 12, Rashid and content creator Ailene Wu will be at Box Hill Central with 600 yuzu-curd-filled, matcha-cream-topped doughnuts each day.
