"Gerard Byrne: A Late Night in the Future"

Sat 8th October, 2016 – Sun 27th November, 2016
111 Sturt Street, Southbank

For his first major survey in Australia, Irish artist Gerard Byrne transforms the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art into a theatre, immersing the audience in an intricate, multi-sensory network of lights, TV monitors, video projections and sculptural structures.

Byrne explores "historical ideas, conversations and locations in order to consider their contemporary relevance and to blur distinctions between past and future, myth and reality".

He is interested in collective history, memory and reconstructing imagery from the past, and in A Late Night in the Future he uses an archive of his own video works that span more than 15 years.
