For one night, fancy Fitzroy butchery Meatsmith is becoming a mini enoteca with the help of Georgio de Maria.
De Maria, who co-founded natural-wine festival Rootstock and now runs Italian-focused Giorgio de Maria Fun Wines, will be in-store with Meatsmith’s Troy Wheeler to present Pasta Dal Macellaio.
The event is free, with food and wine available to buy on the night, including bagna cauda (a hot garlicky anchovy dipping sauce), taleggio and porcini vol-au-vent (cheese and mushroom pastry), and rabbit agnolotti del plin. The latter is an iconic filled pasta from Piemonte, Italy, which takes its name from regional word for “pinch”. There will also be a selection of Giorgio de Maria Fun Wines to take away.
July is Italian month at Meatsmith, which means there are hearty Italian-style take-home meals, classic and interesting wine and spirit varieties, pantry staples and locally grown Italian vegetables and herbs.
From 6pm to 9pm.
