Firelight Festival 2022 at Docklands
It’s time to get fired up: after a two-year hiatus, the annual Firelight Festival is finally returning to Docklands this winter, with a packed program of red-hot fire installations, light shows, pop-up foodie feasts and more. Happening from Friday July 1 until Sunday July 3, Firelight Festival is the City of Melbourne’s winter celebration of all things incandescent – as well as family, community, food and music.
Free to attend and taking place across three precincts in Melbourne’s Docklands – Harbour Esplanade, New Quay Promenade and Victoria Harbour Promenade – this year’s Firelight Festival features over 100 performers across the three nights, from musicians and roving performers to fire-breathers and fire-twirlers. It’ll also play host to resident DJ MzRizk, who’ll soundtrack all three days of the festival.
Across the weekend, catch live performances by Mexican ensemble Mariachi los Romanticos; jazz band The Sugarfoot Ramblers; Balkan–Romani group Lolo Lovina; Ghanaian master drummer Kofi Kunkpe; and the incomparable Brunswick Women’s Choir. As you wander the fiery premises, take your pick from over 20 food trucks offering everything from smoked meats, soup and wood-fired pizza to mulled wine, hot chocolate, roasted marshmallows and much more.
And as if that’s not enough: this year’s festival centrepiece is an eight-metre-high phoenix that doubles as a mesmerising liquid, light and laser show running every hour. Over at Buluk Park Docklands, a new light installation brings the area to life with 13 light stems standing at 6 metres tall.
Fri to Sat 5pm - 11pm
