Feeling Afraid as if Something Terrible Is Going To Happen at Arts Centre Melbourne
How wrong can Mr Right be? That’s the question posed by Feeling Afraid as if Something Terrible Is Going To Happen, a new show from the producers of Fleabag and Baby Reindeer. It debuts at Arts Centre Melbourne on Tuesday January 14.
Fresh from London stages, as well as a critically acclaimed showing at Edinburgh Fringe, the show comes to Australia for a limited two-week run. It tells the story of a “permanently single” comedian who may have finally met his match. Audiences will be taken on a journey of vulnerability, intimacy, ego and humility as the situation unravels and descends into chaos. Just how far will this comedian go to get the last laugh?
The one-man show stars Tony and Olivier-nominated actor Samuel Barnett, and is brought to the stage by Francesca Moody (producer of the stage veresions of Fleabag and Baby Reindeer). Written by Marcelo dos Santos (Lionboy, Complicite) and directed by Matthew Xia (Blue/Orange, Young Vic), the show’s been described as both hilarious and heartbreaking, at times simultaneously.
Feeling Afraid as if Something Terrible Is Going To Happen opens on Tuesday January 14 at 7pm, with sessions running from Tuesday through Sunday until February 1. There will be a post-show Q&A with Barnett on Thursday January 23. The production is suitable for audiences 16 years and over.
