Feast To Feed: A Fundraising Dinner by Alex Makes Meals
Chefs from around Melbourne (and one from the Northern Territory) are joining forces for a cause – they’re raising funds for Alex Makes Meals, a food charity delivering warm and nutritious meals to vulnerable people across Greater Melbourne. They’re doing it through a five-course degustation menu, with each chef recreating their own respective signature dishes.
The night’s line-up will feature Adam D’Sylva (Lollo and Boca Gelato, ex-Coda and Tonka); Andrea Vignali and Davide Bonadiman of Al Dente Enoteca; Masterchef’s Minoli De Silva, flying down from her Darwin restaurant Ella by Minoli; ex-Attica pastry chef Alessandro Luppolo; dip king Tom Sarafian; and the team at Italian restaurant The Hardware Club.
The one-off menu begins with curry leaf-cured kingfish by De Silva, followed by Sarafian’s well-loved hummus served with minced lamb, fried slivered almonds and pita bread. For mains: a tortellini cacio e pepe served with burnt butter sauce by Al Dente, then D’Sylva’s famous yellow curry with crispy caramelised duck. The Hardware Club is also making kachumber (an Indian salad) featuring cucumber, tomato and red onion tossed in a makrut lime and chilli dressing as a side. And for dessert: Lupollo’s chocolate limoncello tiramisu to satisfy your sweet cravings. Vegetarian meals, prepped by each chef, will also be available on the night.
There’ll be wines from Barossa Valley winery Yalumba, beers from Glen Iris’s Deeds Brewing, mezcal Negronis by Faradays and a selection of zero-sugar drinks by Famous Soda Co to go with the dishes. A Cipriani Bellini cocktail is also being served on arrival.
And to guide you through it all, journalist, food writer and Broadsheet contributor Dani Valent will act as the night’s host.
Alex Dekker started Alex Makes Meals at the beginning of the pandemic when he was just a university student – now the charity makes over 3000 meals a week for homeless and disadvantaged youth. Proceeds from the fundraising dinner will go toward continuing to help feed those facing food insecurity across Melbourne.
From 6pm to 11pm. Tickets cost $190 per person and include five courses, all drinks and a goody bag.
