FareShare Appeals for Lentils

Mon 11th September, 2017
The Melbourne food charity needs five tonnes of the protein-packed legume.

Melbourne food charity FareShare is seeking donations of lentils to add protein and nutrients to the 5000 meals it prepares each day.

With the help of 850 regular volunteers, FareShare feeds Victorians in need through soup vans, homeless shelters, school breakfast programs and family violence refuges.

The organisation says lentils are an ideal ingredient to have in large supply – they’re affordable and have a long shelf life – but are hard to obtain through the regular method of rescuing food surplus from businesses.

If you are interested in running a lentil drive, email FareShare logistics manager Patrick Lanyon at patrick.lanyon@fareshare.net.au.
