Since May 2018, Ryan Noreiks, Rob Libecans and Matt Stirling have operated a series of takeovers and pop-ups at cocktail bars in Australia and overseas, including Sydney’s Ramblin’ Rascal Tavern, Brisbane’s Saville Row, Fitzroy’s Drinkwell and Dandelyan in London. Their Collins Street bar Fancy Free has been their longest pop-up to date. (Broadsheet even named it one of the best bar openings of 2019.)
But as with all good things, it must come to a (temporary) end. The current iteration of Fancy Free will pack up shop on July 28, ahead of the crew starting work on a more permanent home.
In its final weeks, Fancy Free will be running a new cocktail menu each week. In the first week you’ll likely find a smoky Chinese tea infused with Scotch whisky.
In addition, the last three Sundays have been booked for the bar’s Late Night Tails series, which will kick off on Sunday July 14 with an Irish Pub Lunch with Roe & Co Irish Whiskey. Then on Sunday July 21, celebrated chef Casey Wall of Capitano and Bar Liberty will take over the kitchen, and on Sunday July 28, Fancy Free’s own Matt Reade will roll out New Zealand-themed fare, starting in the afternoon and going into the evening.
While the team is currently busy working on a permanent site, you’ll be able to catch them hosting their Late Night Tails events at a number of soon-to-be-announced venues over the next six months.
