Experimental Whisky at the Black Pearl

Ahead of World Whisky Day, Glenfiddich is hosting a special event that allows guests to take the reins on the menu.

In anticipation of World Whisky Day on May 19, the Black Pearl’s expert bartenders are showcasing their expertise with a specially curated range of offerings for whisky lovers, in partnership with Glefiddich.

On Thursday 17, The Attic upstairs will host the Glenfiddich’s new Experimental series. On offer will be handcrafted drams such as the #1 Experiment IPA, which is aged in oak barrels used to brew Indian Pale Ale beer for a distinctive hoppy note. Also on the menu is the #2 Experiment, Project XX (pronounced “twenty”), a whisky workshopped by 20 of Glenfiddich’s finest whisky experts and specially blended by Brian Kinsman, Glenfiddich’s master distiller. The Project XX carries tasting notes like summer fruits and candy floss.

The evening begins at 7pm and will also play host to a selection of new drinks created by the award-winning bartenders at The Black Pearl in collaboration with their former colleague, now Glenfiddich ambassador, Luke Sanderson. Specific drinks are being kept tightly under wraps by the creative team, but will feature options such as figs, blackberries, rhubarb, plum, mandarin and fennel, as well as a range of herbal additions. There will also be the chance to sit in on a private Glenfiddich tasting featuring a selection of whiskies from the Experimental range, Glenfiddich distillery and rare drops from Sanderson’s personal collection.

For the week of May 19-25, the Black Pearl will also offer a special series of three bespoke soda and Scotch pairings.

Michael Cheim and Thor Burquist of bespoke soda bar PS40, in Sydney, have created three new sodas to pair with three expressions of the Glenfiddich range. The Hop + Skip & Jump combines blood orange, coriander stem and vanilla with the Glenfiddich IPA; Call Me By My Name sees grapefruit, gentian and honey complement Project XX; and Smoke on the Water adds lemon and ironbark to the complex notes of Glenfiddich 12.

Each drink will be available exclusively in Melbourne at the Black Pearl throughout the week.
