Emergency Bake Sale for Lebanon at Free to Feed
Some of the city’s biggest names in food are hosting a bake sale to raise money for Beirut charity Beit el Baraka, a non-profit, non-secular organisation that is supporting over one million Lebanese people who have been displaced in the past month.
Lebanese Australian Jinane Bou-Assi has gathered chefs including Tom Sarafian, Helly Raichura of Enter Via Laundry, cookbook author Julia Busuttil Nishimura, Falco Bakery founder Christine Tran, Zackary Furst of Bar Liberty and more to participate in the bake sale on Sunday October 13 at social enterprise Free to Feed’s space in Fitzroy North from 10am until sold out.
Expect good from Alimentari cheese pasties from Furst; vegan pastries from Shannon Martinez’s Smith & Deli; croissants, morning buns and khachapuri (Georgian cheese bread) from All Are Welcome; Persian saffron almond mawa (milk solids) cake from Raichura; and more.
Copies of Plates of Goodness by Many Little chef Gayan Pierisand and Sofra: Lebanese Recipes To Share by Karima Hazim Chatila and Sivine Tabbouch will be on sale, and there’ll be an auction for an Olana Janfa artwork.
All proceeds from the bake sale will go to the Beit el Baraka charity. The sale runs 10am until sold out.
