A new Den is opening on Chapel – and it’s just what the lively district ordered. Join us September 5, as we get the first taste of what’s inside.

Tombo Den, the latest from Chris Lucas’s Lucas Restaurants, is soon to open its door on the Chapel Street precinct. Inspired by the late-night specialty spots that hide within the many laneways of Tokyo, Tombo Den seeks to provide diners with the same casual vibe. The menu by head chef Dan Chan (from Hong Kong’s Michelin-starred Yardbird and Melbourne’s beloved Supernormal) is based around sharing. Plates of sushi, handmade dumplings, and top cuts of meat with seasonal vegetables, all cooked over Japanese coal, will be served up every night.

And you don’t have to stop at dinner – Tombo has a whole upper level dedicated to cocktails, wine and (obviously) sake. Oh, and there’s a private karaoke room.

Access members have the opportunity to try Tombo Den at our next Editors Preview Night – before the public gets a taste. Start the night with your choice of complimentary cocktail and a small array of starters, before enjoying a three-course set menu of the restaurant’s soon-to-be favourites. For our Access dinner expect features of roasted edamame and sapporo flatbread, a chef's selection of nigiri, as well as sweetcorn fritters. For mains, a soy glazed beef short rib, and charred broccolini will be served your way, and finishing the night is a strawberry & sake ice cream sundae, garnished with financier and matcha ice magic.

Between courses, you’ll hear from Chan himself as he participates in a Q&A with Celia McCarthy, Lucas Restaurants’ general manager of brand, communications and guest experience, and Broadsheet’s own Nick Connellan.
