Docklands Drone Show by Celestial

Sat 15th January, 2022 – Sun 30th January, 2022
After being grounded for New Year’s Eve, “Australia’s largest-ever drone show” – featuring 350 drones – finally takes to the skies every night for the rest of January.

The cancellation of the New Year’s Eve drone show was one of the last blows of 2021, but the flying spectacle is finally making its debut.

Every night for the rest of January, 350 drones will swarm above Docklands for two eight-minute drone performances.

It’s being delivered by drone art company Celestial, which also worked on the 2020 New Year drone display in Edinburgh and Amnesty International’s 60th anniversary. According to Lord Mayor Sally Capp, it’s “one of the first drone shows of this scale to ever take place in the Southern Hemisphere”.

Celestial CEO Tony Martin says the team is working with celebrated local talent to design and choreograph the drone show, aiming to convey a “greener, healthier, happier future” after the last two years.

The shows start at 9.30pm and 10.30pm, accompanied by poetry soundscapes – hear local artist Ren Alessandra read out Melbourne, Feel the Sound from January 15 to 24, while Wurundjeri creation story How the Platypus (Dulai Wurrung) Was Made takes over from January 25 to 30.
