Take a look behind the scenes of nearly a century of breathtaking animation with the night-time sessions during the closing weekend of ACMI’s exclusive Disney exhibition.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out ACMI’s behind-the-scenes exhibition dedicated to the animation powerhouse, Disney: The Magic of Animation is inviting parents and other older fans to behold these unique treasures with after-hours sessions across the closing weekend.

That includes the chance to grab a drink and peruse close to a century of Disney animation, complete with a running playlist of reinterpreted Disney songs. The Melbourne-exclusive exhibition showcases more than 500 sketches and artworks, spanning from 1928 right up to 2021’s gorgeous Raya and the Last Dragon.

These stunning works-in-progress shed fascinating light on the characters that have touched so many of us. From Mickey Mouse’s debut talkie, Steamboat Willie, to CGI box office smashes such as Frozen and Moana, you’ll get to see the inspired hand-drawn moments that fuelled the finished product. Learn about technological advances along the way, including the evolution from painstaking handmade animation to digital innovations. You’ll also get a sense for how Disney has pushed to incorporate more diverse representation in recent decades, telling more specific stories about the human experience.

Whether you want to wax nostalgic with friends over drinks or bring your young child (or teenager) along for one last look, this is a special way to engage with this one-of-a-kind exhibition.
