Ela Melbourne – aka Ella Mittas, the chef known for hosting a swathe of sell-out pop-up dinners – and independent wine sellers Blackhearts & Sparrows are putting on a dinner-and-a-show series at The Convent.
On Saturdays in November, Mittas will serve a three-course meal, the Blackhearts & Sparrows crew will pick out matching wines, and local musos will perform in the intimate Cam’s Kiosk space.
The first dinner on November 2 will be soundtracked by Music in Exile, the label that gives a platform to musicians from culturally or linguistically diverse communities trying to establish themselves in Australia. South Sudanese musician Ajak Kwai, who’s won fans with her vibrant, soulful live sets, will perform on the night.
Steph and Al (Dick Diver’s Steph Hughes and Al Montfort) are playing on November 9; followed on November 16 by ex-Twerps frontman Martin Frawley, who released his first solo album Undone at 31 in February; and award-wining singer-songwriter Jess Ribeiro on November 23.
The ticket covers a generous sharing menu, featuring dishes such as broad beans and artichokes with red wine vinegar, garlic and thyme; chickpea pancakes with braised capsicums and stracciatella; herbed chicken off the spit; and baked honey and lavender tart with apricots. All dietary requirements are catered for and drinks are available to buy on the night. From 6.30pm to 10pm.
