Dine Out: St Ali x Piccolina Square-Cut Affogato

A silky serve of affogato at Vivoli, one of Florence’s oldest gelaterias, took over feeds a few years ago and it hasn’t stopped trending since. The formula? Classic gelato packed into a chilled cup with neat, squared-off edges and a hot espresso shot poured straight into the centre.

Can’t make it to Italy? No worries. For Broadsheet’s inaugural Dine Out festival, cult Melbourne coffee roaster St Ali is teaming up with Piccolina to recreate the viral dessert with their own spin.

Their take (priced at $10), stays true to Vivoli’s technique, using La Pavoni espresso machines to pour St Ali coffee over any of Piccolina’s small-batch scoops.

Available at all Piccolina stores, plus St Ali’s South Melbourne cafe.
