Dine Out: Freddy’s Montanara Night with Il Mercante Wine

Fried dough is delicious in all its forms – doughnuts, gnocchi, roti. For Broadsheet’s inaugural Dine Out festival, Windsor pizzeria Freddy’s is swapping its usual slices for montanara: a Neapolitan-style pizza using fried dough, topped with pomodoro, parmigiano and basil. Think of it like a margherita – but fried.

Start the night with a Tommy’s aperitivo spritz and a plate of antipasto to share. Then it’s onto pizza montanara, gnocchi with beef ragu and a winter salad. To finish, there’s cannoli and a dessert-style cocktail by Tommy’s.

The menu is matched with drops from Il Mercante, which imports wine from independent producers across Italy, Australia and New Zealand.
