Dine Out: ABC Mee Pok Special

Broadsheet’s Dine Out festival is back for its second edition and North Melbourne eatery Gai Wong – known for its exemplary Hainanese chicken and rice – is joining the party.

For one week only during the festival, swing in for ABC (ah, bak, chui) mee pok, a hearty bowl that follows Gai Wong’s comfort food philosophy. It sees mee pok (flat egg noodles) piled with a six-hour pork and shiitake ragu (bak) and spring onion. Fried shallots and ikan bilis (crisp dried anchovies, or chui) add some crunch and a burst of umami, before the whole bowl is finished off with tender slices of smoked duck (ah).
