MFWF and Dan Murphy’s have teamed up for a classic diner collab with a modern twist, featuring an all-star line-up of Dans (and Daniels) from Brae, Sixpenny, Yakimono and Commis.

There are plenty of new events and old favourites coming up at this year’s Melbourne Food & Wine Festival. A newcomer (and likely crowd favourite) this year is Dan’s Diner. Running from March 15 to 24, the Dan Murphy’s collab is taking over Fed Square with lunch, dinner and drink menus from a line-up of hospitality heroes.

This is a diner like no diner you’ve seen before. Dan’s Diner dreams up world-class culinary creations with the help of an all-star team of Dans and Daniels: Dan Hunter (of regional Victorian restaurant Brae), Daniel Puskas (from Sydney institution Sixpenny) and Daniel Wilson (from Melbourne’s Japanese-inspired eatery Yakimono). Expect dishes like fried chicken and buttermilk waffles with togarashi maple syrup, a juicy wagyu patty melt on sourdough with Bloody Mary-spiced crispy onions, and a pancake short stack with bacon, serrano chilli honey and the option of smoked-eel butter. It doesn’t stop with the mains though, for dessert, there’s a remix of Puskas’ mega-slice carrot and pecan cake (a Sixpenny lockdown throwback) or Wilson’s peach cobbler doughnut.

On drinks service is Dan Murphy’s, of course, with cocktails by Daniel Docherty of the new Collingwood wine bar Commis. From thirst-quenching non-alc options to game-changing Victorian wine and beer from the likes of Patrick Sullivan, William Downie and Boatrocker, there’s something on offer for all palates and price points.

Dan’s Diner is open throughout the entire festival, and visitors are welcome to drop in from noon every day for a drink or snack at the bar or cosy up in a booth for a diner-style feast.
