City Cellar Door on Tour: Yarra Valley
This isn’t your average, made-for-the-masses wine tour, though. Taste wine straight from the barrel and hear directly from winemakers over three winery visits hosted by Cumulus Up’s head sommelier, Chris Ryan. You'll be ferried by bus from Cumulus Up to the Yarra Valley, and back.
The first stop is Gembrook Hill Vineyard (Melbourne Gin Company’s production is also based here so expect gin tastings, too). Next is Chestnut Hill Vineyard – home to Cumulus Inc co-owner Jayden Ong’s labels One Block and La Maison de Ong.
Sample his new-release drops over lunch. Start with Baker Bleu bread and house-made lavosh with cheese and charcuterie, plus pickles, crudité and tarama. The main event is Cumulus Inc’s much-ordered slow-roasted lamb shoulder, which will be served shredded so you can stuff it into a sanga with souped-up toppings such as roasted red peppers with almonds, salsa verde and sumac onions.
After lunch it’s on to Rob Hall and Fleet Wines for more tastings. Then kick on back at Cumulus Up.
