Cinema at the G
Melbourne has no shortage of outdoor cinemas. But it’s rare you get the opportunity to watch a new-release film – not a footy or cricket match – on hallowed Melbourne Cricket Ground turf.
You've got two nights to optimise on the fleeting Cinema at the G experience. The critically acclaimed Elton John biopic Rocketman is screening on Friday February 14 (if you’re still looking for a Valentine’s Day activity). On Saturday February 15 you can see Ride Like a Girl, based on the life of Michelle Payne, who was the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup.
Each session is capped at 2000 people and there are a limited number of luxury ticket options: VIP tickets include beanbag seating and a blanket, and a Best on Ground ticket will get you couch seating, unlimited popcorn, a drink on arrival and more.
Those in general admission can bring along blankets and pillows, as well as snacks and non-alcoholic drinks (however, no glass or cans are allowed inside the venue). Arrive early to claim your spot on the grass.
Gates open at 6.30pm; film starts at 8.30pm.
