Chunky Move Presents Next Move 11
Acclaimed contemporary and cross-genre dance company Chunky Move is presenting two new works rooted in surrealism and futurism in its new show Next Move 11.
Emerging choreographers Lauren Langlois and Joel Bray have created works that each, in their own way, investigate the body, self, memory and imagination.
Langlois’s work Nether depicts a future where the physical world is the last frontier of humanity. Physical theatre and dance combine to tell a story of technological obsession and meta-humanism.
Dharawungara by Joel Bray is a solo performance that explores his ancestral Wiradjuri heritage with a collision and exploration of rituals. The theatre is reinvented as a ceremonial ground of light and sound, accentuated by the pulsating electronic beats of a soundtrack by Naretha Williams. With this performance Bray explores ancient ceremonial practices and the realities of colonialism.
This is the 11th instalment in Chunky Move’s Next Move series, where the company commissions, produces and presents works by young and upcoming creatives.
