Chocolate History Tour of Fitzroy and Collingwood
Before becoming the bohemian and creative enclaves that we all now know, Fitzroy and Collingwood used to be chocolate-devoted precincts. Follow professional chocolatier and tour guide Howard Frederick and take the trip on Sunday 18 November or 2 December to discover the hidden chocolate history of Victoria.
The tour will have an important focus on philanthropist and entrepreneur MacPherson Robertson’s career – think MacRobertsons’ sweets as Freddo Frog, Cherry Ripe and Old Gold, now owned by Cadbury – but will also look into the businesses of other famous local chocolatiers like Everfresh Snowball, Simpson’s and Craig & Hales.
Chocolate fans will be taken during approximately two hours through the secret laneways and warehouses of the ‘Great White City’, which once employed 3,000 people in the area. And to finish brilliantly, attendees will be treated to a chocolate tasting and a high tea at Collingwood’s High Tea Szalón, Mámor Chocolates on Johnston Street.
For sure, you won't taste your Freddo chocolates the same way again.
