Calypso Wine Party at Abbotsford Convent

Sat 2nd September, 2023
Abbotsford Convent
1 St Helier Street, Abbotsford
Price: $49
Taste wines from top natural producers, enjoy snacks from forthcoming restaurant Julie and dance past sundown. Sounds like a perfect Saturday arvo for spring.

Abbotsford stalwart Cam’s Kiosk is on the cusp of opening a new restaurant, Julie’s, inside the former Lentil As Anything space. (And Broadsheet readers can try it early.) Before then, the venue’s sommeliers, Anna Clifford and Claudelle Savannah, are throwing a wine party on the nearby Mercator Lawn.

“We want to set the scene for a space where our community connects and grows, where conversations are curious, where ideas grow and where we pause to appreciate the talent in our hospitality industry, particularly those who have the heart and effort to dedicate their practice to making sure the relationship between wine and mama earth is one of mutual benefit,” the duo says.

True to that, the four-hour informal tasting includes wines from Australia’s leading natural wineries, including Manon, Limus, Bobar, The Other Right, Mac Forbes and a dozen others. Top importers Campbell Burton and Giorgio De Maria are also on board, bringing sulphur-free wines from France and Italy into the mix. Snacks will come from Julie.

After the tasting wraps, boogie until 9pm with sets from Miki, Ali Currey, Simon TK (of Wax’o Paradiso fame) and Danny Hotep, more wine and beers from Molly Rose and Heaps Normal.

1pm–9pm (tasting concludes at 4pm)
