Some of Melbourne’s best bakeries and cafes are coming together this weekend for the Cake + Kindess bake sale, to help women from refugee communities with training and employment opportunities.
Merchant Road organised the event during National Refugee Week, to raise funds and awareness about the employment challenges for female refugees in Australia. The social enterprise and catering company provides hospitality traineeships to help bridge the gap.
The bake sale will be held on the lawn of Park Street Dining in Carlton North, featuring wares from bakeries and cafes such as Baker D. Chirico, Loafer, Babka, All Are Welcome, Beatrix, Top Paddock and Messer. Chefs Julia Ostro and Ella Mittas will also be involved.
Ceramists Wingnut & Co will have a stall, with 60 per cent of the proceeds going towards the cause. Posy arrangements will also be available to purchase from floral studio Cecilia Fox.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own reusable coffee cups and containers to take treats home.
