The Burnside Conversations + Q&A

Tue 26th March, 2019
Federation Square Flinders Street Melbourne
Price: $8–$18
Hear from one of Australia's strongest voices for human rights in person, followed by a world-premiere screening of this new conversation series.

Julian Burnside is one of Australia’s most prominent human rights barristers and outspoken refugee advocates. In March, he announced he would run as a Greens candidate in the upcoming federal election in his local electorate of Kooyong – the seat currently held by Treasurer Josh Frydenberg.

The Burnside Conversations is a 15-part web series directed by Judy Rymer, which picks up where her 2018 documentary Border Politics left off. The documentary followed Burnside as he deconstructed the world’s harshest asylum seeker policies. In the new series, he speaks with key thinkers in the human rights space, including former president of the Australian Human Rights Commission Gillian Triggs, and Kenneth Roth, the executive director of Human Rights Watch.

From 7.15pm, Burnside will participate in a Q&A session before a world-premiere screening of nine handpicked episodes.
