Bob Fest in St Kilda

Fri 13th September, 2024 – Sun 15th September, 2024
Celebrate Aussie priest Father Bob’s 90th birthday with three days of live music, comedy and a community feast – all for a good cause. Plus, catch a performance by The Johnnys and panel with John Safran.

Father Bob was arguably Australia’s most well-known Roman Catholic priest, noted for his social justice advocacy, service towards the homeless and a Triple J radio show with comedic documentarian John Safran, Sunday Night Safran, where the pair bickered on-air over religion, culture and politics. Sadly, he died in 2023, but Father Bob’s legacy lives on.

In celebration of what would’ve been his 90th birthday, Father Bob’s Foundation – which is committed to providing weekly community meals, educational programs, a community pantry and social advocacy – is hosting a weekend of festivities across St Kilda, lovingly dubbed Bob Fest.

Friday September 13

Head to the Espy Basement from 7pm to 10pm for a night of rock and punk with music from local bands Black Market Bear, Dead Rodeo and WACO Social Club.

Saturday September 14

For those who remember Father Bob’s radio days, join midday panel All About Bob with former co-host John Safran and guests in the Gershwin Room at The Espy.

Join the party at Bob’s Birthday Bash headlined by Aussie rock band The Johnnys. There’ll also be performances by Dead Amigos, Fred Negro's 3182 ETC, Kim Volkman and The Whiskey Priests.

Or skip the pub and entertain the kids at the St Kilda Sports Club with free interactive activities based on science, technology, engineering, art and maths. Plus, there’s a screening of In Bob We Trust, a documentary on the priest’s life.

Sunday September 15

Catch comedians Claire Hooper, Prue Blake, Sarah Maree Cameron, Kate Hanley and Tim Hewitt at St Kilda’s George Lane for an afternoon hosted by writer and actor Brian Nankervis.

After, head to Peanut Farm Reserve for a dog parade followed by a large community meal curated by the executive chef of Italian diner Cicciolina. You can purchase a meal for community members in need. There’ll also be live music by opera singer Samuel Thomas-Holland and entertainment by comedian Marty Fields.

All proceeds will go towards the foundation, which is aiming to raise $90,000 across the three days.
