Batman Anniversary Marathon
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Tim Burton’s wildly theatrical original Batman film and its star-studded ’90s follow-ups, The Astor will be screening them all – back to back.
Can’t decide if Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer or George Clooney is your favourite broody, Batsuit-clad hero? On Saturday May 25 you won’t have to.
The marathon kicks off at 1pm with Batman (1989), in which Keaton’s straight-faced Bruce Wayne takes on Jack Nicholson’s deranged Joker.
Up next is Burton’s equally kooky sequel Batman Returns (1992), featuring Danny DeVito as a monstrous half man, half penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, before Kilmer gets behind the wheel of the Batmobile in Batman Forever (1995). Wrapping things up is Batman and Robin (1997), arguably the most uneven of the bunch, in which Clooney pulls on the cape to take on a poison-lipped Uma Thurman and an ice gun wielding Arnie as Mr Freeze.
Honourable mentions also go to Nicole Kidman as love-interest psychologist Dr Chase Meridian, Jim Carrey as the Riddler, two-faced Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl. Plus, Seal for lending his banger Kiss From a Rose to the Batman Forever soundtrack.
There’ll also be follow up screenings of Batman on Tuesday May 28 at 7.30pm and Saturday June 1 at 4pm.
