Barefoot Cinema is bringing more than 35 classic and soon-to-be classic films to its pop-up outdoor cinemas this summer. There’ll be consecutive stints in Portsea, Mount Martha, Elsternwick and a surprise venue (to be announced in December).
All films will screen across the four locations. Watch out for cult hits such as Muriel’s Wedding, blockbusters such as The Joker and Hustlers, and musical box-office hits such as A Star Is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody and La La Land. There’ll also be special themed nights and family-friendly films such as Aladdin, The Lion King and Toy Story 4.
At all screenings you’ll also find lawn games, live music, food trucks and a fully stocked bar (with a happy hour). Keep an eye out for surprise door prizes and treasure hunts, too.
For city folks, Elsternwick’s Rippon Lea Estate is the closest location, and its season kicks off early this time around with the Christmas-themed Twilight Movie Nights. On Friday December 6 see the evil-monster-fuelled comedy-horror Gremlins from 1984, or dial back to Macaulay Culkin’s heyday for your yearly dose of Home Alone on Saturday December 7. Tip: get in early to explore the 19th century mansion and its gardens.
