The Australian Ballet Presents The Merry Widow
The Australian Ballet’s production of the opulent The Merry Widow will bring the bordering-on-farcical entanglements of French society in all its lavish glory to the Arts Centre.
The story was originally an operetta and is set in the small principality of Pontevedro. It follows the story of a dashing count who – in order to save his country – must marry an wealthy, desirable newly widowed woman, who also happens to be the childhood sweetheart he jilted years earlier. And she has a long memory.
This production of the classic story has been created specifically for The Australian Ballet and presents the ballrooms and salons of Belle Époque Paris, and the feathers, velvets and spangles to match.
