Giselle – the iconic romantic ballet famous for its “white act” – has become synonymous with ethereal ghosts floating through a forest. But it’s also a universal story of love, passion betrayal and death. And the less universal experience of resurrection.
A young girl falls for an aristocrat in disguise. When she realises his deception, the shock kills her. She is raised from her grave by the vengeful Queen of the Wilis, and she must then save her lover from destruction.
This production by Maina Gielgud celebrated production – with designs by Peter Farmer – highlights the emotional nuances of this poignant story and the purity of its Romantic technique.
