A look back at a two-decade-long artistic partnership, with an eye on the future.

Australian artists Sonia Leber and David Chesworth have been collaborating for more than 20 years, creating cinematic video works interrogating the world around them.

Architecture Makes Us, a new exhibition at Fitzroy's Centre for Contemporary Photography, is a mid-career survey of their partnership, bringing together six major video works exploring the "architecture" of society – the political systems, technological innovations, geographical changes and built environments that shape modern life.

Leber and Chesworth's works have appeared in international exhibitions including the 56th Biennale of Venice (2015), the 19th Biennale of Sydney (2014) and the fifth Moscow Biennale (2013).

An accompanying publication to the CCP-commissioned exhibition will include texts by Naomi Cass, Giles Fielke, Fiona Gruber, Pippa Milne, Nikos Papastergiadis, Amelia Winata and Kate Warren.

As part of Melbourne Art Week, a free "sound walk" with the artists will take place from 2pm–3pm on Saturday August 4, from the Melbourne Art Fair at 111 Sturt Street, Southbank.

Architecture Makes Us opens Friday July 27, 6pm–8pm, and runs until September 9, 2018 at CCP. A free artist talk will take place on Saturday July 28 from 12pm–1pm. More information here.
