Archibald Prize 2016 Exhibition
The Archibald Prize is one of Australia’s most prestigious art awards, given to the best portrait painting in Australia. An exhibition of the finalists is now showing at the Art Gallery of Ballarat.
The Archibald submissions often show a who’s who of Australian culture, ranging from politicians and fashion designers, to architects, sports icons and artists. 2016's finalists included portraits of Barry Humphries, George Calombaris, Ken Done and Louise Olsen.
In previous years artists including Nora Heysen, William Dobell, Brett Whiteley, Ben Quilty, Tim Storrier and Fiona Lowry have won the coveted award.
The Art Gallery of Ballarat is the exclusive Victorian venue for the 2016 Archibald Prize, which is a touring exhibition of the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
The Archibald Prize 2016 is a timed-ticket exhibition, with entry every 30-minute until the last entry at 4pm. To secure your preferred viewing time, the gallery recommends booking in advance. If you choose to buy tickets on the day, arrive early to avoid disappointment.
