The actor, writer, director, you name it is in town for the film festival.

Most of us remember Alia Shawkat as the no-nonsense teenager Maeby Fünke from Arrested Development, but her ever-growing catalogue of work goes far beyond her adolescent sitcom persona, and well exceeds most her age.

Shawkat will be in Melbourne this August as a guest of the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) for screenings of her unconventional biopic Blaze, directed by Ethan Hawke.

She will appear in conversation with writer and presenter Lorin Clarke at the Comedy Theatre on Saturday August 18 from 1.30pm, as part of the MIFF Talks program presented by the Age in partnership with the Wheeler Centre.

The one-hour chat will cover Shawkat's career highlights to date, including her black-comedy cult hit Search Party and new independent film Duck Butter, which she starred in, executive produced and co-wrote. Of course.
