Affordable Art Fair at the Royal Exhibition Building
By creating a platform for buyers to browse and buy artworks at accessible pricepoints, the annual Affordable Art Fair challenges the assumption that the art world has to be intimidating and expensive.
The next fair is taking place at the Royal Exhibition Building from Thursday August 29 to Sunday September 1. See the Unesco World Heritage site transformed into a massive art marketplace with 55 boutique galleries exhibiting works. Galleries include Queenscliff’s Salt Contemporary, online outlet Bluethumb, Collingwood’s Sol Gallery, Fitzroy’s Outré Gallery and Plume Gallery from Lorne.
There’s also one of the longest running Aboriginal-owned art centres, Warlukurlangu Artists, from the Northern Territory. One hundred per cent of sales from this gallery go back to its First Nations artists. Plus, fair-goers have the chance to discover exciting new artists through the Young Talent platform, which shines a spotlight on the work of artists under 35.
Prices are clearly labeled and range between $100 and $10000, with complimentary wrapping available on-site.
Aside from the art, this year’s program includes a ceramics demonstration, live sketching and free face painting for kids.
