Aesop’s Queer Library
Last year, Aesop stores in the US and Canada were devoid of the Aussie skincare brand’s products for a whole week. Instead, the stores’ shelves were lined with books highlighting LGBTQIA+ stories and voices from around the world for Pride Week.
And to coincide with Melbourne’s annual Midsumma Festival, one local Aesop store is doing the same.
The Aesop store on Gertrude Street, Fitzroy is transforming into a library dedicated to queer literature, with more than 5000 volumes by 60 queer authors and allies available in the space. Included work spotlights figures like writer Benjamin Law, Yuin author Gary Lonesborough, Wiradjuri poet and filmmaker Jazz Money, transgender writer and historian Dr Yves Rees, Mununjali-Dutch author Ellen van Neerven and more.
And Aesop is giving the tomes away for free – no other purchase required. Just visit the store and choose a book to take home.
