Accidentally Wes Anderson Exhibition in Melbourne
If you haven’t already caught the hype via Instagram, there’s something to love about filmmaker Wes Anderson. From the ubiquitous symmetry to the pastel colour palettes, the idyllic scenery took over everyone’s feeds in 2023. You’ll still catch it every now and then, but this September it’s making a comeback for us to take in first-hand.
American couple Wally and Amanda Koval started Accidentally Wes Anderson in 2017. Seven years later, they have nearly two million followers and two published books of collected imagery.
And now it’s coming to Bourke Street in September. AWA promises an immersive voyage with over 200 real-life images, curated and organised into 10 themed rooms. Each room will contain a photography series that nods to the classic elegance of Wes Anderson films. Some of the themes include maritime, nodding to the coastal and breezy landscapes featured in Moonrise Kingdom.
The journey won’t stop there, other themes include classic facades, calling to mind the vibrant grandeur you’ll find in The Grand Budapest Hotel, doors (because it’s not a Wes Anderson-themed exhibit unless you can pull off a photo of a random doorway) and nature. Fever will also be adding an Australian-themed room to the Melbourne exhibit, showing off our native landscapes and views, with a Wes Anderson twist.
Conclude your visual voyage with a trip to the AWA shop where you’ll find some quirky souvenirs, postcards, notebooks and signed editions of the New York Times bestselling book, Accidentally Wes Anderson for the traveller.
