At The Above Gallery PlayDocg Exhibition

At the Above is a collaborative, multi-purpose studio above Gertrude Street, which regularly hosts exhibitions from Australian and international artists, along with residencies, pop-ups, launch events, shopping experiences and more. Right now until September 7, PlayDocg is exhibiting in the space.

PlayDocg traces the 10-year career of multidisciplinary Melbourne artist DOCG, and the development of his recognisable cartoonish style that’s seen him collaborate with brands like Nike, Disney and New Balance. At the centre of the collection is a recurring motif of eyes, showing up across moving image, digital artworks, large-scale paintings, clothing, sculpture and toys.

While DOCG’s style is nostalgic for the pop art revival of the 1980s, the exhibition brings this playfully into the tech era – you’ll find a claw machine filled with DOCG plush toys, and LED screens showcasing the artist’s animated world.
