Binge on back-to-back shorts at this entirely free, two-day film festival.

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) is hosting its inaugural Shorts and Web Fest in Sydney in August. And all films shortlisted for the awards will also be screening in Melbourne on September 3 and 4.

The entirely free event, at Cinema Nova in Carlton, will feature screenings of Australia’s top short films, documentaries, animations and web series.

See Madeleine Gottlieb’s Snare, about a father and punk-rock son recognising their co-dependence at a schmaltzy Chinese restaurant, which screened at SXSW and Toronto International Film Festival; War Mothers: Unbreakable, about an 18-year-old’s response to the war in the Ukraine, which made its world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival; and Grace Otto’s Desert Dash.

Amassing over five million views on Youtube, comedy whiz Aunty Donna’s online sketch series Glenridge Secondary College will also screen, alongside episodes of Dylan River’s Robbie Hood, and Over and Out, winner of the best short-form series at this year’s Canneseries.

All nominated short films will also screen in Sydney on August 30 and 31, and Brisbane on September 2 and 3.

Entry is free to all screenings, but registration is essential. Register here.
