As the country’s top bartenders pit their best creations against each other for a national spot in a global competition, the rest of us get to enjoy bespoke drinks across a five-day celebration of the cocktail itself — and all with a very approachable price tag.

With bars open again, fresh and innovative cocktails are back in our lives. And the return of one of the industry’s most prestigious competitions is about to shine added light on a national drinks scene that’s been largely on pause during the past year.

Australia’s top bartenders will battle it out for the top spot nationally in Diageo's annual competition World Class Bartender of the Year, with the winner going on to compete virtually on the world stage in July. Meanwhile, the rest of us get to sample exclusive hand-crafted cocktails with a very palatable price tag of $15.

Enter the World Class Cocktail Festival, the competition’s global sister celebration of cocktail culture that’s making Sydney its official Australian hub this year, complete with live events and pop-ups. But other capital cities won’t be left out, with special drink creations appearing on menus around the country from Wednesday April 28 to Sunday May 2.

Leading the charge around Melbourne will be Black Pearl, The Woods of Windsor, Nick and Nora’s, Bad Frankie, Eau de Vie, Bar Liberty and 1806, among many others.

Check out the festival website for more participating bars around the city as they’re announced.
